At the beginning of March we welcomed Tilly Robertson to our gardening team. Tilly comes to us from Murthly Castle Garden which is just north of Perth and near Dunkeld in Perthshire where she had been for 11 years. Prior to that she had worked at various gardens throughout Scotland.
Since she started in the garden Tilly has set about transforming the garden with great energy and enthusiasm. In the short time that she has been there, she and Simon MacPhunn – our consultant gardener – have transformed the garden. The English Yews have been trimmed, to remove dead and dangerous branches; the Irish or Fastigiate Yews have been cut down to enable them to re-generate from the centre. The borders round the edge have been cleared, the box hedges tidied up, the apple trees pruned and all in all the garden is much tidier and looks cared for.
Tilly has had the assistance of volunteers during week days – particularly in the middle of the week (Tuesday to Thursday). There are many useful tasks which volunteers can undertake in the garden. We also plan to have volunteer days on Saturdays, so you can all join in and help to bring our wonderful garden back to life.
We are currently looking for two new board members to help manage the development of the garden. We already have a good mix of skills but we are looking, in particular for one member who could undertake the fund-raising function and the other to look after the development of the garden membership .

Following the departure of Julie Lorimer, our factor, at the end of last year the board were very pleased to appoint Jim Davidson as our new Factor.
Jim comes from a farming background and lives near Tarves. His knowledge of local contacts is invaluable for us.
